We are saddened to share with you that Professor Robert D Bentley, a resident for more than 30 years in our community and owner of the Casa Bentley Boutique Hotel, passed away last Monday, October 4 at 88 years of age.

He was a man very committed to the community giving work both in the construction of the hotel, as well as its maintenance, to our local people, as well as unwavering generosity and support for different families in our community at different times.

Dr. Bentley was a man very concerned about the environment of Todos Santos and had a vast understanding of the groundwater system of our region, was a friend, teacher and mentor to hundreds of students, geologist by profession, and expert in the rocks and geology of Baja.

Unfortunately, it is also known that from two days prior to his death, his estranged wife, absent for more than 20 years, appeared, being fully aware of his delicate health situation, but much more interested in the property, than in Professor Bentley.

After his death, while we were doing the errands for cremation services, the wife and stepchildren have changed the locks and locked the property and possibly returned to the US, without even waiting for Dr. Bentley's ashes, much less paying the expenses of the cremation, that was achieved by the support of a close friend of Mr. Bentley who was willing to send the money from the US. The family, they have not shown a bit of respect, only ambition and ingratitude.

To our valued guests, please know that we are working to reopen Casa Bentley as soon as possible, to honor Dr. Bentley's instructions, as stated in his final Will.
